Leica fuses the image quality of a powerful, fully multicoated optic with the usefulness of a 1200-yard laser rangefinder and integrated ballistics calculator to create its 15x56 Geovid R Binocular/Rangefinder. Using an infrared laser rangefinder and a built-in inclinometer, the on-board computer adjusts the displayed range for more precise shot placement when shooting up or downhill, and an in-view four-character LED display allows the observer to view the range without having to take their eyes off the subject. This version of the Geovid displays distances in yards only and is controlled with a convenient single push button.
Complementing its ranging qualities, the Geovid sports oversized 56mm objective lenses and a powerful 15x magnification. Combining this lens system with Leica's proprietary anti-reflection lens coatings helps to boost light transmission, and improve color and contrast, even at long distances. Excellent low-light performance during the dawn and dusk hours extends its usability. Protecting the optics and electronics is a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy chassis that is nitrogen filled for fogproof and waterproof performance in extreme conditions. It is wrapped in a protective armor that also provides a slip-resistant grip, especially in cold and wet weather. Because of the size, weight, and high magnification, the Geovid is outfitted with a tripod adapter mount to allow users to attach it to a support system. Using a tripod not only avoids fatigue, but with magnifications this powerful hand-shake tends to become more noticeable so mounting the binocular will increase the glassing experience greatly.
